Queen Size Blanket
This is the first blanket I ever made! I started with this last Friday while I was in SFO and worked on this for the next 4 half days (on and off). I finished this last night. I doubled the use of yarn for each line and utilized 16 skeins for the whole thing. I created a combo of deep purple and amethyst colors of acrylic type of yarn. I used the largest hook (see left photo, notice the regular size of the hook we normally use in the Philippines as compared to the big blue plastic hook). I learned how to crochet in 5th grade and in my sophomore years in highschool; never liked it, really. But my travels made me appreciate it, little by little. But I only tried it again after my Egyptian sojourn in 2000/20001. Egyptian women mostly knit and crochet and from my observation, in 4 seasons countries, many women knit or crochet to use their stuff during the winter time. Here in the US, I got fascinated with crocheting last year when I first visited some crafts stores. They have an enormous amount of yarns for sale and in variety of types! I started learning how to crochet again. Last year, I created the brown shawl (see photo below) and the emerald green green shawl, I did two weeks ago while husband and I were driving around town. It is fun and easy to do! I also used the huge blue hook for these. These are "Afghan type of blanket and shawl."
Above left: close up of the furry, velvet type of yarn I used for the emerald shawl on the right. This and the brown shawl's yarn are very costly for about $5.00 to $6.00 each small skein. I used 10 skeins for each.
